Air quality in swine growing and finishing facilities with different building typologies AGRIAMBI
Cecchin,Daiane; Campos,Alessandro T.; Cruz,Vasco F. da; Sousa,Francine A.; Amaral,Pedro I. S.; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki.
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the concentration of gases in three swine growing and finishing facilities with different building typologies, regarding floor and dividers. The experiment compared three treatments: pen with water depth, pen with partially slotted floor on the sides, and pen with partially slotted floor on sides and in the center. Measurements of instantaneous concentrations of ammonia (NH3 ppm) and carbon dioxide (CO2 ppm) were taken at animal level. The levels of sound pressure (dB) at animal level and at 1.50 m from the floor were also recorded. It was observed that the pen with water depth was the one with the highest average concentration of NH3. Although there was a significant difference in CO2 concentrations,...

Air quality, sound pressure level, and thermal environment of two swine nursery styles Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Freitas,Leticia Cibele da Silva Ramos; Campos,Alessandro Torres; Yanagi Junior,Tadayuki; Schiassi,Leonardo; Andrade,Rafaella Resende.
ABSTRACT Because of the importance of the ambiance in swine facilities, this study aimed to evaluate the air quality, the sound pressure level, and the thermal environment of two distinct swine nursery styles. A completely randomized block design with a split-plot arrangement was used, in which the main plots were composed of the nurseries and the external environment; the subplots were the hours; and the replications were the collection days. Air temperature data (ºC), relative humidity (%), and black globe humidity index (BGHI) data were collected throughout the day at 10-min intervals, with means compared by Tukey’s test at 0.05 probability level. Instantaneous concentrations of ammonia (ppm), carbon dioxide (ppm), and sound pressure levels (dB(C)) were...

BASIC UNIT COST SIMULATION FROM FREE-STALL DESIGN TO DAIRY CATTLE CONFINEMENT USING DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES REA
Ramos,Marcelo C.; Barbosa,Jackson A..
ABSTRACT The ascendancy of milk production in Brazil is due to mainly to the adoption of confinement systems, however, construction quality of these systems impact on milk production. This study aimed to simulate the Basic Unit Cost (BUC m-2), referring to a free-stall design with capacity for 80 animals and different construction techniques, with a database for various budget analysis and investment plans. A budgetary spreadsheet was modeled, allowing simulating the BUC m-2 for different combinations of roof pillars (metallic, wood or reinforced concrete), covering structure (metallic or wood), coverage model (with or without ridge vent), roof tiles (aluminum, cement or ceramic) and masonry (concrete block, ceramic or solid brick). The techniques used...

BOVINE WELLFARE HANDLED IN ADAPTED CORRAL WITH UNCONVENTIONAL MATERIALS REA
Sartori,Diogo de L.; Nakanishi,Erika Y.; Cravo,Julio C. M.; Martello,Luciane S.; Fiorelli,Juliano.
ABSTRACT This study aimed at evaluating bovine behavioral parameters managed in crowding pens built with modular panel of reforestation wood and homogeneous particle sheets of sugarcane bagasse and in conventional wooden crowding pens. The animals treated had their body surface temperature measured by the infrared thermography method and the behavior evaluated through the flight time parameters and the behavior score in the crowding pens. The results indicated that the animals managed in these buildings showed no difference in the behavioral parameters, but the mean and maximum superficial body temperatures were lower in the animals managed in the crowding pens of modular panel.

CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER FRAMES FOR USE IN LAYING POULTRY HOUSES REA
Stringari,Eduardo H.; Petrauski,Alfredo; Petrauski,Sandra M. C.; Azevedo,Ricardo L.; Savaris,Gustavo.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to present a solution in glued laminated timber to replace frame structures built in reinforced concrete and metallic structure, which are common in agricultural buildings in western Paraná such as those destined to laying poultry house building by agricultural cooperatives. Structural behavior of frames build from Araucaria angustifolia glued boards and vegetable oil-based polyurethane adhesive was evaluated. Tests were carried out to characterize wood and adhesive to obtain verification/sizing parameters. Initially, a full-scale structural project was conducted to meet standard laying poultry house specifications. Afterwards, five units of straight three-articulated frames on a 1:2.5 reduced scale were designed, built, and...

Influence of stiffness in bolted connections in wooden plane structure of truss type REA
Christoforo,André L.; Romanholo,Giuliano A.; Panzera,Túlio H.; Borges,Paulo H. R.; Lahr,Francisco A. R..
Trusses are structural systems commonly used in projects, being employed mainly in roof structures, present in most rural buildings. The design of trusses, as well as other structural systems, requires the determination of displacements, strains and stresses. However, the project is developed from an ideal model of calculation, considering free rotation between the elements of a connection. This paper presents a computer program for the analysis of bidimensional wooden trusses with connections formed with two screws per node. The formulation is based on the flexibility method, taking into account the influence of the effect of semi-rigid connections formed by two screws. An example of a structure is presented and analyzed by the program developed here,...

Use of giant reed Arundo Donax L. in rural constructions CIGR Journal
Francesco Barreca; Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria, Dept. of Agroforestry and Environmental Sciences and Technologies.
Buildings are accountable for over 40% of energy use in OECD countries.  Most energy is used for indoor environment control and artificial lighting; the rest is used for the production of materials and the construction and demolition of buildings.  The correct utilization of natural materials could lead to energy saving during the use of the buildings and during the phase of demolition because the less the material is subjected to transformations, the less energy cost it is.  Moreover, the study of the properties of materials, in order to choose the most suitable one, allows energy saving during the building use.  In particular, the utilization of local material in rural buildings minimizes the energy cost for its transport as well as its environmental...
